Artifact 1
This is a video of me performing Rachmaniov’s Prelude in G Minor. It was recorded on November 30th, 2022 with the piano at my house and uploaded onto YouTube. I recorded it for a piano competition where you had to send in a video of yourself playing. I spent hours before the occasion practicing and the final result shows now only my piano abilities, but also the patience, hard work, and dedication that went into it.
Artifact 2
This is a picture of a car I took in Japan in the summer of 2024, and I took it with my DSLR. I stumbled across it while walking around Tokyo at night while taking pictures of the nightlife. I’ve had an interest in Photography since 5th grade and I always bring a camera with me whenever I travel anywhere. I think this shows some creativity and artistic talent as well my fondness for cars.
Artifact 3: My College Essay
This is an essay I wrote for my college applications back in my senior year of high school, and I spent hours writing, revising, and editing it. The essay was about an experience I had while volunteering at a summer camp, where I had to step out of my comfort zone to engage with the kids there and make sure they were happy. I think the essay itself shows the work I put into writing it, but the contents of the essay also show that I like helping others and trying new things.
Curator’s note: Through these three artifacts that I created, I wanted to show a more complete picture of myself. I wanted to show that I’m somebody who is hardworking, patient, but also creative, and also showcase all the interests and skills that I have that make me unique. All of my artifacts vary in types. The video of my piano playing is mostly auditory, and it allows the audience to experience the musicality as well as the work that went into learning the piece that words or a picture can’t show as well. The pictures I took in Japan let the audience appreciate my creativity, but also my passion for photography, which I’ve developed over the years. And the essay I wrote about a life changing experience I had shows the reader both the hours I spent writing and editing the essay and also that I’m dedicated and caring and willing to adapt through storytelling, which would be hard to do with any other type of media. This portfolio has shown me that I really value putting dedication, time, and creativity into things that I do, especially when I’m passionate about them, which leads to new knowledge and achievements. It’s important that I remember to always give this effort into everything I do, such as writing.
